Book the Jebel Jais Zipline at Least a Week in Advance

The world's longest zipline is RAK's top attraction and sells out regularly, especially on weekends from Friday to Saturday and during the October to April peak season. Book at least 7 days ahead to secure your preferred time slot. Morning slots from 9:00 to 10:00 AM offer the clearest visibility and the least queue time at the platform.

Combine Zipline and Via Ferrata in a Single Day

Both activities are located on Jebel Jais, so scheduling them together saves a second drive up the mountain. Book the Via Ferrata Ledge Walk or Halfway route for 9:00 AM, finishing by 11:30 AM, then have lunch at the 1484 by Puro restaurant, and take the zipline in the early afternoon. This combines RAK's two signature activities into one efficient day.

Bring Layers, Mountain Temperatures Drop Significantly

Jebel Jais is 15 to 20 degrees cooler than RAK city at sea level. Winter mornings at the summit can drop to 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, and wind chill makes it feel colder. Bring a windproof jacket, even if it's 30 degrees at your hotel. Wear closed-toe hiking shoes with grip. Flip-flops and sandals aren't permitted on climbing activities.

Schedule Hiking for October to March Only

The Hajar Mountain hiking trails, including the Stairway to Heaven, are exposed to direct sunlight with no shade. Summer temperatures at lower elevations exceed 45 degrees Celsius and make hiking dangerous. October to March offers comfortable trekking conditions at 15 to 28 degrees at altitude. Start hikes before 7:00 AM to avoid the midday sun, even in winter.

Drive the Jebel Jais Road Slowly, It's an Attraction Itself

The 30-kilometre mountain road to Jebel Jais is one of the most scenic drives in the UAE, climbing from sea level to the summit with multiple switchbacks and viewpoints. Pull over at the designated viewing decks for photographs. The road has no fuel stations, so fill your tank before starting. Drive carefully on hairpin turns, especially in fog between December and February.

The Jebel Jais Flight is the world's longest zipline, certified by Guinness World Records at 2.83 kilometres. Riders are harnessed in a superman-style prone position and reach speeds of up to 150 km/h as they soar 1,680 metres above sea level. The total descent covers a vertical drop of more than 1 kilometre, and the full flight lasts approximately 2 to 3 minutes.

The Bear Grylls Explorers Camp on Jebel Jais is the first of its kind in the world. The camp offers 16 different outdoor challenges designed by Bear Grylls himself, including high-rope courses, climbing walls, archery, and survival skills training. Participants can earn official Bear Grylls certificates for completing challenge circuits.

Jebel Jais Via Ferrata is the UAE's only iron-path climbing experience. The route follows a fixed cable and iron rung system hammered directly into the mountain face, allowing climbers without technical rock-climbing skills to traverse exposed cliff faces at altitudes above 1,200 metres. Three routes of increasing difficulty are available: Ledge Walk, Halfway, and Summit.

Self-Drive to Jebel Jais from RAK City

The drive from RAK city centre to the Jebel Jais adventure area takes 35 to 45 minutes via the scenic Jebel Jais Road, one of the most dramatic mountain drives in the UAE. The road climbs from sea level to 1,934 metres with hairpin turns and panoramic viewpoints. Free parking is available at the main activity base. All zipline, Via Ferrata, and Bear Grylls camp bookings include a specific meeting point with GPS coordinates.

Transfers from Dubai Hotels

Tour operators offer return transfers from Dubai hotels to Jebel Jais and other RAK adventure locations. Pick-up from Dubai Marina or Downtown Dubai between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, arriving at Jebel Jais by 9:30 AM. Return to Dubai by 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Private and shared transfer options are available. Self-driving from Dubai takes approximately 90 minutes via the E311 highway.

Bear Grylls Explorers Camp sessions are available at 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM. Kayaking tours are tide-dependent and typically operate 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Activities close during rare fog events at altitude and during heavy rain. Summer months from June to August may see reduced hours due to extreme heat at lower elevations.

Professional Equipment and Safety Gear

All adventure activities provide complete equipment: harnesses, helmets, gloves, carabiners, and climbing shoes for Via Ferrata; superman-style harness for zipline; paddles, life jackets, and dry bags for kayaking. Equipment is inspected daily and meets international safety certification standards.

Mountain Cafes and Rest Areas

Several rest stops and a cafe are located along the Jebel Jais road and at the activity base. The 1484 by Puro restaurant sits at the highest dining point in the UAE at 1,484 metres and serves breakfast, lunch, and hot beverages. Water refill stations are available at activity meeting points. Bring additional water for hiking because there are no facilities on the mountain trails themselves.

Limited Accessibility on Mountain Activities

Adventure activities on Jebel Jais involve physical exertion and occur on uneven mountain terrain. The zipline requires guests to walk approximately 200 metres to the launch platform. Via Ferrata requires upper body strength and grip. The Bear Grylls camp has some ground-level challenges suitable for guests with limited mobility. Kayaking is accessible for guests who can sit in a kayak. Contact operators in advance to discuss specific requirements.

Weight and Age Limits

Jebel Jais zipline: minimum weight 40 kg, maximum 150 kg, minimum age 12. Via Ferrata: minimum age 12 for Summit route, 10 for Halfway, 6 for Ledge Walk. Bear Grylls Camp: minimum age 6. Paragliding: maximum weight 100 kg, minimum age 14. All participants must sign safety waivers. Pregnant women cannot participate in zipline, Via Ferrata, or paragliding.

Weather-Dependent Closures

Adventure activities at altitude are subject to weather conditions. Zipline and Via Ferrata close during fog, which is common in winter mornings at summit level, as well as rain, electrical storms, or high winds exceeding 40 km/h. Paragliding requires wind speeds below 25 km/h. Closures are announced the morning of, and bookings are rescheduled or refunded. Check conditions before driving up.
